Ardea EcoExpeditions, Ardea Ecotours and Research Expeditions in Downeast Maine and Beyond

Research Expeditions

Research ExpeditionsOur “voluntourism” programs provide a  richer guided experience through unique collaborations with local researchers and non-profits.  Hands-on involvement aids local conservation efforts while providing a more meaningful vacation experience.

Plants Rescue in Paradise – August 9–12, 2006

A unique collaboration between Ardea Eco Expeditions and Chewonki Foundation’s inaugural voyage of “Grand Chat.”

Paddling and Plants in Paradise

Scenic jewels of Downeast Maine’s coastal islands contain unique rare plant communities.  After sea kayaking out to rarely visited protected islands we will work directly with researchers at the Maine Natural History Observatory to conduct a botanical inventory and search for invasive plant species. There will be ample time for photography and wildlife watching in this exceptional island setting.  This unique collaboration between researchers, island managers and Ardea EcoExpeditions is a must for amateur botanists and wildflower enthusiasts — though all are welcome.

Acadia Inventory and Monitoring Programs

Acadia Inventory and Monitoring ProgramsWe will be based at the Schoodic Education and Research Center in the heart of Acadia National Park’s Schoodic Peninsula — the “Quiet Acadia.”  Participants will join coastal ecological monitoring projects ranging from slimemold surveys to amphibian monitoring.  Evening programs include presentations by area researchers and nighttime excursions like owl calling and stargazing or moonlight phosphorescence paddles.
